Account
Permanent - default address (i.e. no mailing address) - only used in Household account.
Mailing - where mail should go
Alternate (many) - other types (vacation, temporary, other, former) you can link this as mailing address
Contact
Mailing - can be the same as account or different address linked to an alternate
Business - stored in alternate, but have special relationship with contact

Changing Contact Address
With the introduction of Communication Channel Tab on Account and contact, some of the fields that would be useful is not going to be “showable” because it is a predefined Lightning component that AQ has built to streamline the maintenance of all communication channels (addresses, emails, phone numbers). At the time of writing, I have made an inquiry to AQ which they said this can be forwarded as an enhancement request to potentially be included in future releases.
Such fields are “Do Not Archive” which is useful if one is only updating cosmetic or data entry error which tells the system to not archive the old address and then there’s “Alternate Address Link” which is useful to see if the current mailing address is a “Linked” address to an alternate and which one. These anyhow are hidden on current layouts except for the “Mailing Address Link” on Account. However, I strongly suggest to resurface them for the purposes mentioned.
