Future State

The Advancement Portfolio would like to optimise the page layout of the Opportunity as it is a core record used across the Portfolio.

Design Philosophy

Page layouts should follow the Salesforce Lightning Design System (SLDS) design guidelines and aspire towards their core principles of Clarity, Efficiency, Consistency, and Beauty. The Opportunity should follow the existing recommendations for a record layout which consists of a page header, main content area and a sidebar.

The feedback experience for entering data in an Opportunity should follow the SLDS guidelines. The guidelines recommend that standard feedback (like not being able to update a field) be provided through Inline Text, Popovers, Toast, or Modals. The current Opportunity page layout uses Toasts to indicate errors when any of the 29 validation rules are not met. These errors fade after 5 seconds. SLDS guidelines recommend that Toasts should persist until the user closes it.
